Dear Parents/Carers

After keeping the covid -19 virus out of school for a year it was with extreme reluctance that I had to take the decision to close school yesterday, a decision that was only taken after a long morning of consultation with the Department for Education, Public Health England and North Yorkshire County Council.

Until yesterday East Ayton was one a very few schools in North Yorkshire not to have to close some part of school over the past year, which Public Health England gave us considerable credit for, whilst also recognising that it was very unlikely that we would not be effected at some point regardless of how rigorously we followed the risk assessment. You will appreciate that I am not able to go into detail about the specific case but just to reiterate that the closure of school was due to the limited availability of staff making opening unsafe.

Remote online learning provision is now in place for each year group and is available via the school website in the same way as before. For those of you who haven’t used the online system for returning work, called Class Dojo, this is the link to set it up.

I am also in the process of setting up live fitness sessions for each class to take place next Thursday and Friday, which the children will be able to join via Zoom, specific details will follow soon.

Once again, I am so very sorry for the inconvenience to parents and the disruption to children’s learning this closure has caused. Thank you to those parents I have spoken to today who have been so understanding, it’s very much appreciated.
